Of course this is about our 2-wheeled MX "ATV" friends so if you don't care about them this will not interest you.
What a great day for some MX racing yesterday here in upstate NY
Perfect weather, great track conditions (low dust) after a heavy rain saturday night.
No real shockers here in the race results.
125s- Bubba went out and killed everyone again, 30-to-40-second wins in both motos. He was flawless, this kid is scary good. He might be better at 18 than anyone I've ever seen. The great racing was going on behind Stewart, with Brock Helper (went 2-3) taking 2nd in the 1st moto, and 16 year old Davi Millsaps taking 2nd in the 2nd moto.
Next year's 125 class could be the best and deepest in history with so many talented young riders like Hepler, Millsaps, Josh Hansen, Ryan Mills, Mike Alessi (eventually) and at least a half-dozen others I'm forgetting.
250s- Looked like the same script since the season started. Chad Reed took the lead in the 1st moto but RC and Windham worked their way by and pulled away from the pack. By lap two RC was in front with Windham a few seconds back. Around lap four, Windham actually reeled Ricky right in and was all over him, but RC never cracked a bit and eventually Windham dropped back a few seconds and started to cruise. Chad Reed drove hard after Windham and made K-Dub twist the throttle a bit more and Windham pulled away again, but then like 2 laps later Windham started to lose speed, his bike was "popping" a lot more than in should have. I think Reed must have heard it too because he was like a shark, all over K-Dub until Windham couldn't hold him off anymore and Reed took 2nd. It was RC, Reed, K-Dub 1-2-3 with Tortelli 4th and Byrne 5th.
Moto 2 was RC out of the hole and gone with Reed in tow. Windham got pushed back to 5th. One of the two big down-hill triples, the one after the table-top and uphill back section was being tackled by only the big three of Carmichael, Reed and Windham, no one else did it all day. Most riders were opting for the double-double. The jump is totally sick, it's a fast down-hill triple of like 100-feet, with a 180-degree turn as soon as you land it. So you land and grab the binders bang-bang! Anyway, on the 1st lap Windham went down pretty hard trying to do it in traffic. I didn't even see what happened exactly, I just noticed a bike tumbling. Windham pulled into the pits and they did some work on the bike and he went out dead last. RC just pulled away from Reed, and Reed just pulled away from everyone else. The two of them were just gone. Reed stayed close enough so that if RC made a mistake....well......RC really doesn't make many mistakes, and he didn't make any yesterday either. Eventually Ernesto Fonseca would work his was up to 3rd and hold it down. Nick Wey had a nice ride too, as he and Tortelli battled during moto-2.
The scariest note of the day. Out of the 40 bikes in the 125 class, only 4 were TWO STROKES!!!! Can you believe that? Two were Kawasaki and two were KTM. Of course Stewart won on his so there you go. The 250s were not too much better, although there were probably closer to 10 two strokes. But they didn't win. Tortelli and Fonseca were the two top 2-strokes.
And of course there were the women. The Nationals are always filled with beautiful women and yesterday was no exception. They were everywhere, and they were looking good. I didn't really notice myself, but my wife insists there were hot guys there too.....and as long as I don't get hit for checking out the other girls she can say what she wants.
All in all a great day of racing, and a good ride through the woods on our quads to get there. The trails were so wet and muddy though and the water was DAMN COLD in the dark of the woods. It was only 39-degrees up here the night before last.
Here's a scary thought, my father rode his new Sportsman 700 since we brought a cooler and stuff, and on a fire rode he had this thing up to 60mph. This thing is as big as a truck first of all, I can't believe it will go 60 but it did. At one point going down a hill he claims he it 64?!? My Warrior has no speedo, but my wife was on a Scrambler and she said were were going 60 at one point and he was ahead of us. I wasn't pinned in 6th yet, but I was pretty damn close. I can't believe those things are that fast.
