Opinions on twist throttle for Banshee?
#1
Am considering switching out the thumb throttle for a twist on the Banshee. I ride the Shee mainly at Oregon Dunes. I'm thinking it would be the clear way to go....my only concern is places like the sand roads going to the beach, etc., which are usually whoops that you need to be picking up on the front end so you don't beat yourself to death. Wondering if having a twist will make that a dangerous situation? Go to pick up on the front by the grips and launch yourself to the moon, sort of thing????? Pushing two carbs with a thumb throttle wears my thumb out by the end of the day.
Any opinions?
Thanks

Well. i ride a thumb throttle on my raptor and i went to the dunes with my buddy he has a lt250r. i have never rode it but i asked him i could take it for a spin. .he has twist grip and it was awesome for buzzing around the flats. but i tried to haul it up the face and there is woops before it and yeah i almost killed myself going to let of the gas and u hit a bump and naturally u pull back and blip the throttle and bounce all around.. I mean i guess its something u would get used to but still i would rather have the thumb throttle.. How long have u had ur shee.. have u just not gotten used to the throttle yet? also.. ever think of a throttle thumb extender..

Yep, what you just said is what I was afraid of. I think I'd rather be in control with an aching thumb than lose it at a most inopportune time, like halfway up the face of V8 or something.
I haven't had the Shee all that long, but have ridden my Warrior for quite a while. I keep that one for the mountain trails where we live and take the Banshee to the dunes. The Warrior's throttle is a piece of cake compared to the Banshee.
I had forgotten all about the extenders. Thanks for the reminder. Maybe that is the way I should go.

Yeah no problem.. also is your banshee fairly new.. if so the throttle prob hasnt worked itself in too a comfortable position yet.. i ride my 02 raptor alot more than my buddy rides his 01 raptor.. but when we go out riding if i switch him up his throttle is so much hard to push and it hurts my thumb.. also on my bike i have twisted the thumb throttle downwards a little bit and it makes me feel more like i am making a fist than pushing u know..

Yeah, any type of whoops or rough terrain and your throttle control is out the window. I had a branch wrap around my neck once when I was riding with a twist throttle and when it pulled my head back, my hand twisted the throttle and almost tore my damned head off! Plus, I hear they're prone to sticking, especially when dirt or sand gets in them.

I have twist on my Banshee and love it. No problem at all in sand whoops or hills. It's whatever you get used to. The Bansh is only used at dunes. I also just bought a 400EX that will be used in trails, woods, some mud, but not much in sand. I like the idea of the 400EX totally sealed up thumb throttle and for now I plan to keep it. There will be no mud getting in around the throttle grip. A twist is hard to beat in the sand. A thumb is most reliable in the mud. No problem going back and forth from one to the other. Don't worry about it just go do it. I believe the CR type 1/4 turn from Motion Pro is best way to go with twist. I would stay away from old style large aluminum wheel type twist which I believe is more vulnerable to damage.

I have a twist on my blaster, And i know what you mean about the woops, but it's not a problem.
When im hitting woops i try and wheelie over them to save alot of bumping around. it isn't any harder, or more dangerous with a twist..

My riding buddy ran a twist on his banshee. He never really got used to it like I did (he wasn't willing to get used to it). I had no trouble pulling off any tricks I wanted with it. I don't ride anything but twists on every bike we have. You just can't beat the throttle response. Some people don't like them; I think most don't give themselves time to adjust to it (like my buddy). But I can tell you one thing, if you ever get used to riding one, you'll never go back.
