Default honda 450r broken frame- not happy

my frame broke on my 450. i took my 450 in for a valve adjustment at the dealer and they noticed the broken frame. i was not aware that the frame was broken until they told me. it broke on a weld between the top frame rail and the side rail which goes down toward the foot peg. When the dealer discovered the issue they called me and told me that America Honda would cover the frame under warranty but they were imediately red tagging the frame meaning i could not get my machine back until the new frame came in and everything was changed over. i was impressed that they covered it under warranty with all the after market race parts that were on it. i am a little pi$$ed off because i have been waiting for 3 weeks for the new frame to come in. That is 3 missed races so far. My dealer says they will have a ship date for the new frame on monday. Due to work i don't get on this site very often. So any questions directed to me you will have to give me a few weeks to get back to you. Any one else have problems breaking frames? All the dealers that i have talked to say that there has not been any problems that they know of.

This is the first issue of a 450r frame I have been informed of. You are lucky thats not a YFZ, because you would be on your own with the frame....I guarantee it. You could see if you dealer could get a frame quicker from another dealer that has one in stock. Good luck.

Go to exriders, they have had a few with this problem. They might be able to answer your questions.

thank God for this. at least honda has the integrity to not only cover the damage but also, as bad as it may seem, to not release the bike to you until it is properly fixed with a new frame, not a weld or anything halfway done.

there is absouletly nothing wrong with rewelding a frame if done correctly, it was welded to begin with, but i also agree that getting a new frame is awesome

if i were you i woulda just welded it so i could race until the new frame came in. that's kool that they're doing it under warranty. those 450r frame seem to be really strong, with all the extra supports and everything. maybe somebody at the factory was in a rush while welding or something.

I think the idea behind red tagging was so Honda could RMA the frame and figure out why it cracked to improve it. I'd bet they don't want it rewelded. This is the kind of thing that separates Honda from the other companies. The '86 350X frames had different gussets than the '85, probably as a result of a similar process.

I guess this has got a few the guys I know spooked . On decided to use his 450r for trails only and racing the 400ex and the other is selling his 450r off. I think there is more to it than just the weak frames /a arms though.
