Default Changing the oil. Shouldn't be hard?

It should be easy to change the oil. right? Just drain the oil tank. Then drain the oil from the engine. Then take out the oil filter and replace. Then put fresh oil in. Right?
Do I have to break loose the bleeder screw in where the oil filter is and remove a sparkpug and turn the engine over until oil comes out of the bleeder? Then install new oil filter?
Is there anything else?

not if yours is a 2003....all u have to do is put your filter in leave your kill switch in the off position, turn it over for a couple seconds untill your oil light goes off...i think the newer ds's from 02 to 05 will prime themselves...

Well I did it. I didn't see what you guys wrote until now. I followed the manual to a T. Everything worked fine. I had to use a giant screwdriver to break the bleeder screw loose with a wrench on the screwdriver. I think I needed an imact driver. I took the sparkplug out and turned the engine over intil oil came out. I put everything back together and she ran fine. No red light!
Then I checked the oil guage and it was a quart low. The dealer sold me three quarts. I asked twice if that was right. I thought it took four. They said no. Even the mechanic said three.?? Oh well. That encourages me to do my own work.

It is 3 without the filter, just a tad under 4 with filter.

Thanks
I will get the other quart tomorrow. I feel good that I did the change myself.
I have been going to the flea market and buying tools. This mornig I bought a bunch of extensions and knukle ext's and different adapters for $20. I bought a S-K torque wrench for $3 ! The more tools I get the more I can do the work myself. I need a tool to adjust my rear shock spring to stiffen it up. What do you guys use?

Lift it up it take the weight off it, and should be able to do it by hand.

You must be thinking of the FRONT shocks, they turn by hand easy. But there is no way anybody can turn the rear by hand. first you gotta loosen the lock nut, a large screwdriver and a plastic hammer. preload on the rear spring should be set around 4 to 4-1/2 inches from fully extended measurement. measure preload with you on the bike.

I just came in to write about the rear shock adj. and not being able to turn it by hand. Hightower, after I get the locking nut loose, do I use the hammer/screwdriver on the adjusting nut? Is there a tool for this procedure or is this standard? Thanks
