lt 80 pipes
#3
Most pipes will work well to a certain extent with a stock motor.
The FMF is a good pipe for stock, but I have had very disappointing results with it on ported cylinders.I recommend the FMF for a machine that will stay stock, altho for the price, the DG is my favorite cheap pipe.
The DG and LRD can work well with ported motors and stock. The LRD is alot more $$ than the DG tho. I think they perform the same.
I have been testing the CT/Hetrick/Trinity/ATV Racing pipes. Power Pro's makes all these pipes and I feel the performance is close. The ATV Racing pipe is made for the 105cc motors. It has one part that is physically bigger than the others.
If you have a race machine, I've settled in on the Trinity for the moment. It has a o-ringed connection and don't leak a bit. I definitly have to make some clutch changes to make this/those pipes work, but it seems worth it on the track, altho the hotter the motor the less bottom end grunt it has.I haven't figured out why yet
If you are rec riding/dunes the stock pipe is best. It is just more reliable for these types of riding. Don't let the stock part fool you, my motors run 9800 rpms on the stock pipe. I've often said that if I'd chrome the stock pipe and make it loud somehow, ppl would think it's the best thing since sliced bread
That's my 2 cents on pipes
As for all out power for dunes, no pipe alone will do it. You need a motor kit.

Hey Jack I'm saving my pennies(Just bought 2 brand new quads in july so I'm on probation with the wife)to have you do my daughters lt 80 some dune justice. I bought the dg pipe and 20mm carb before I started reading your stuff. It's still new, should I run it now until I can pay for your mods, or just take my lumps on ebay and get rid of it? Will it make enough of a difference to use it and depriciate its value in the process or just save it and sell it to someone who won't listen to you LOL is there such a thing?

LOL (probation)
I have nothing against the big carb, I just feel it's not nessesary.
If you are dune riding then I would think the stock set-up would be best just cuz the sand gets everywhere,AND it'll go farther on a tank of gas.
At the races this weekend my stock carb was runing with the big carbs.
I guess if it was me, I'd keep the pipe and loose the carb unless you plan on dedicated racing, But that's just me.
The kids like the pipe cuz it's loud. But the pipe works OK, even with my motor.
I'd say it's your call.
