Question about axles....650 AC

Question about axles....650 AC
The 03 and 04 FIS 400's and 500 models all upgraded to 502-544 axles.....front and rear. The 04 650 uses 502-544 front and 502-596 on the rear. Are these a tougher axle? If so, why not use them on the front as well? I assume they're all the same...... ?????
I ask because I just broke a 2nd front axle......
