Oil Switch Again - How Much $$$
#1
This will be the third oil switch to go bad. I'm out of warranty, how much do these cost? I'll call the dealer tomorrow to check, just figured a forum member could quickly answer.
TIA,

Oz,
did they put the boot on your sensor?
there was a bulltin out about putting a rubber boot on the sensor itself.
Mine didnt have one but they put one on at the dealer and didnt charge me.
the boot is just a water guard i believe.

No, there isn't a boot over my sensor. I found an old post about Bulletin 2004-3, Boot #: 710 000 670. This is probably the issue. I'll call the dealer tomorrow. Hopefully they can give me the parts and I'll quickly install.
Thanks for the kick in the right direction. This boot should solve the problem.

No problem thats what were all here for!
the boot just fits snugly over the sensor and there is some silicone and a wire tie keeping it secure on one end and water tight.
I sure had an issue with the oil sensor when i first got mine. Dealer ordered 2 bad ones in a row, bike never left the shop, before the oil light started to glow.
I make it a point now when i pick my bike up to ride it there at the dealers, I hate to get home and still have a problem.

I have had the problem on my 02 and 04 Baja's. Most of the time it is caused by water getting in the switch. I rap mine in plastic wrap before I wash it and it seems to keep out the water. I have had only 2 go bad from riding through water on my 04. That is why I keep 3 or 4 in stock at all times when I go riding. Some people say spray it with some kind of protectant to help keep it from shorting out. Not sure if it works or not, I haven't tried it.

JMAC650,
Is it difficult to see your tach with the rollDesign steering stem and handle bars, they look highter?
I think I would like higher if they didnt block the tach.
How does the stem improve handling?
I know the handling between the older model ds and the new ones is a night and day difference,
buts is that from the A arms up front or the stearing stem?

never knew they stopped putting the rubber boots on them, my '01 has the boot.
the boot only protects the connection, of course the connection will corrode if it gets wet so definitely clean the connection and see if that solves the problem before replacing.
but the sensors do go bad internally - the pressure sensing device inside the switch that no water could ever get to can go bad and has on my bike. in my case, I would never get a red light, even with the motor off and key on.
