I currently have an 04' blaster with the mods below and i cant say i've been to pleased with the results. it wasn't the 2-stroke "kick" i was lookin for. i found a 99' 300ex with an IDS2 header and silencer, uni filter, holeshots all around with douglas rims in all four corners, custom grab bar, maier racing plastics, DG bumper and nerfs, and mayb a few other lil miss. items for $2500!! i thought this really sounded like a good deal. it was exactly what i was lookin for but no one seemed to ever mod out their 300ex's. im lookin for a thumper cause we just moved to kentucky and they will be much easier to handle on the hills, i also NEED/WANT reverse which cancels out the option of a 400ex. i dont have the money for a Z or KFX and im not willing to save for one. i ride tight, rocky/hilly/hardpack/and muddy trails. will the 300ex get me through this with reliability in tact....DEPENDABILITY IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME.

 

Yeah a 300ex will fit the bill nicely.

 

just make sure u got a good swingarm skid plate...and get some 23inch mudding tires on the back...they will give u a bit more ground clearance and much better bite...from what your describing...

it will be alot easier to handle than the blaster...it will work great on the trails....and one more thing ! HAVE FUN RIDING A REAL QUAD!!! HONDA 4 EVER!!!

 

hte 300 will do very nicely, my best friend has a 300ex and it is the baddest bike on the block, he has similar mods as the one you were describing and he will outrun most 400ex's without serious mods.

We also took the 22" gators off of my brothers bike and put them on his and he will outmud everything out here except my dad's big bear 400

Definitely get that 300

 

new 05' 400ex's have new gear ratio's, new plastic, new suspension, and REVERSE!
