Default Hmmm.....14 tooth, or 15 tooth ft sprocket....

I'm getting my DS prepared for my Oct dune trip...and was considering dropping a tooth or two..
I'm going to be running 20" Geckos(no comments)...I have a pipe, filter, and RWR CDI. Does anyone have any opinions on this? Also, I'm about 280 lbs with gear...this is why I'm considering a 14 tooth...

15!

Most people run 15/42 with 22" tires. The 20" tires you have will have it act like a 14/40 set-up.

I'ld look into changing the rear to a 42 sprocket as well. No chain change is needed and this will be a great gearing set-up for you.

I have 20" haulers, and I liked the 15 up front. My bike was all stock other than a piece of crap Trinity exhaust system, and had no problems with the gearing. I'm over 300 with all gear & beer. I do plan on going with 22" haulers & the 15/42 gearing next time though. Not happy with the 20" tires in the sand.

15!!!!! Nothing less then that with stock tires sizes!!

If I were you I would just bring a 15 but leave the 16 on and try it.. If you dont like it swap it...

A 15 tooth sprocket it is then!!! Next season when I can get my hands on some 22" Haulers, I'll try the 15/42 setup. Hopefully, I'll have some nifty motor work to go with it!!!
Thanks for the info!!!

If your going to be running this setup in the dunes, you might hit your rev limiter alot....When I used my stock tires in Glamis, with stock gearing, I was constantly hitting my rev limiter when I'd go up the bigger hills. Paddles put more of a load on the motor, so the difference in gearing will help some. As far as trail riding, it will help your acceleration, but will lower your overall top speed alittle.

With those geckos you may want to stay with the 16.
I have shaved paddle masters that I shaved TOO far ..oops, the do a bit of spinn'n 15/42 was a little low I lost some top end on the drags and in some of the big bowls. You also have 60% springs now don't you. I'll bet that will help a bunch. I'm a bit smaller than you but I've seen you ride.

Yeah take it but Id run the 16 with 20s and 15 with 22s. Those 20s are going to spinn like crazy and with the RWR CDI you dont want to over rev too much. If youve got the stock valve springs you dont want that piston to kiss your valves. That low gearing will cause you to over rev.
