Default Thinking about a used quad. How old and still reliable?

I was thinking about a 2001, but I don't want to get out there and have a lot of problems. I'm sure it depends on how much it's been used. Any opinions?

You've got to take into account which model you're looking at and so forth.

2001 in my books is still fairly new. I've known people who buy around the 92 year and have little problems with them.

I've bought a model that is an 1988. Still running strong after 6 years. Only thing I've done to it, is mods. And, that was to make it better, not fix a problemJust do your homework, take it for a ride and look it over real good. And, just like Jabrille said "You've got to take into account which model you're looking at and so forth." Good luck.

My dad bought an old (88'?)honda fourtrax 4x4 and that thing is more reliable than my raptor or a new yfz....he also got my bro a 91' LT250R and that thing was a POS, we have already spent $2,000 on repairs and it aint ready yet....What Im trying to say is it all depends on the quad your looking at and what it was used for and how good/bad they treated the machine. If your looking for a Raptor, I would say go for a 2002 or newer, preerably one that is completely stock.

01 is still pretty new.

I see much older ATVs out there in great running condition all the time. It's not uncommon to see late 80s ATV out there in great running condition, and certainly anything built the 90s can still be a solid runner.

Typically if a bike has been unchanged for a long time its a good design and will prolly last a long time. IE warrior, 400ex, 300ex, etc.. are old old models and have pretty much been perfected to the point that they last indefinetly if you treat them good. Some other models are just prone to problems though I wont say any names. Any of them start getting more finiky if you mod them though. My warrior lasted a long long time stock, hopped it all up and stuff started going wrong on a regular basis.

take a look at my pics and tell me that thye warrior isnt reliable.......lol. 89 with no major fixes, just upgrades and routine stuff. i wouldnt bat an eye at buyin an 01, just look the thing over very good and ride it to see if there is anything wrong with it.

you can also tell alot about if its been taken care of or not by lookin at the guy selling it and what his other toys look like.
good luck

I found a 2003 Raptor in good shape for $4500. All stock with moderate use. Sound like a good deal?
