Default All Pred owners, check this out, engineer needs some help....

Hey guys, I am currently in college for engineering. An assignment of mine requires that I redesign something that doesn't work well, or that needs redesigned. I was wondering if you guys could think of anything that needed redesigned on the pred. I was going to concentrate on the pred if I could......Here is the info.

The Design Process
1. Identify a Need: recognize existance of a problem, or a less-than desirable condition.

2. Define the problem: Charecterize the changes required to satisfy the need.

There are about 10 more criteria, but this is enough for the help I need........Thanks guys. If I design something, and get it drawn up(on CAD program) then I can try to build it, or get it into action!!!! Thanks Again, Brad

Well Brad you and I own a 03 Predator. I am not to crazy about the plastic thumb throttle. When I switch to the TM42 Mikuni Carb I am going to use a Yamaha Raptors thumb throttle. Just an idea!

I would build an anti-reversion header with 3 or 4 incremintal tubes to the muff. Easy to do and CAD draw.
Or you can go for the "A "and do the 6 valve wet belt clover head.

Thanks for the idea Ernie......keep 'em comming, stuff just like that helps me out. Never ever thought about the throttle, excellent idea. We have to generate a drawing of the new piece, and give a parts list ,and bill of materials too. Hopefully, if I get lucky, something will work out, and I can make an actually prototype.

thanks Dr Turbo.....I think I know what the exhaust is(not for sure) and I have no clue about your motor idea, but thanks anyways.

Keep the ideas comming guys. Hopefully I can get a good one, and draw it up(to specs and all) and send it off to polaris someday.

Focus on the stock airbox design - everyone who owns a predator knows it could be improved. It would be easy to "copy" and exisiting OEM design but apply to the Pred so you get rid of the drop in, improve airflow and velocity, and allow the use of an airbox lid on or off.

Thanks predfan......never thought about that either, very good idea there.

What do you guys think about the shocks/suspension system(including a-arms, springs, shocks, etc.)??

Brad,
I am not a Pred owner but I am a licensed engineer. So here is what I propose: you loan me your ride for say a week or two and I will ride it everyday and takes notes at the end of every ride. Based on my observations, if you develop something worth pursuing a patent for, I get half of all profits.

So what do you say?

Hey, can't blame me for trying...right?

lol......that is all fine, but the part of you riding my preddy. Screw engineering, I'm not giving up my pred. I'm not looking for a patient, too much work there.....more for a good grade, and if it ends up being a good idea/working idea, then I'll try to prototype it.....and maybe send it to Polaris, or just give it to my dealer(doug).

just4kicks.......not to be nosey(sp?), but if you don't mind, could you answer a couple of questions for me, you can do it in a pm if ya want to, or you don't have to at all either. I was wondering, what kind of engineer are you?? How hard is it to be liscensed?? And also, they never talk about money here at college, so I was wondering, about how much do you pull in a year??(Or what does a typical engineer pull in??)

ps....I am going for Mechanical engineeering, and hoping to someday work for Polaris.....hopefullly on the test side of things!!!!!
