slip on pipe and rejet vs. stage one cam?????

First and foremost, new airfilter and pipe. Full pipes are better, but if you are on a budget go with a slip on.
If you are shooting for high hp, you can go with the stage 2 cam. You will need a set of stiffer valve springs at about 140 bucks. You really should have the head ported as well to get the most out of the cam. This runs 250 - 500. And to be honest with you, if you are going to put any cam in, you should go with a higher compression piston as well. 11:1 if you want to stay on pump gas. If you go over that you might want to invest in a new rod at about 250-300 if you can get one, they were on backorder.
In other words, dont get into your engine until you are ready to spend some dough.

His full sys Raptor cannot touch mine, in any type of race, and even torque mine is stronger.

First of all, what do you plan on doing with your quad. You live in MI so you probably aren't going to be spending a lot of time at the big dunes where most of the high horsepower quads are running. If you're just going to be running against your buddies on their 400's and 450's then you don't need to do a bunch of high dollar engine mods that are only going to reduce the lifespan of your motor. Unless you're going to be doing some major engine modifications, you don't need a new head pipe. The stock one is just fine. Get a slip-on exhaust. Most of them are pretty close in performance, it just depends on how much you want to spend. Get a new air filter and adaptor. Since you are going to be riding in a lot of dust and mud (Michigan) I would reccomend a 2-stage foam filter. If most of your riding is in sand a K & N may work better. You can run the slip-on without rejetting as long as you don't do any airbox mods. But to get the most power, you will want to remove your airbox lid and re-jet. Use a GYTR jet kit, it's easy and effective.

There are many sand, dirt, and asphalt drags organized in the state. Along with tt, flattrack, and ice racing. Plenty of reasons to go fast.
I agree with you though, most people dont need anything more than pipe and filter on their raptors.
And as for the full vs slip on, thats debateable, because a full pipe from one company will make more hp than the slip on from that same company. When you compare different companies, you will get different results. For a stock engine, the gtyr headpipe is the best, as it is a little smaller and gives better power than the stocker and many larger diameter head pipes.
And I seriously doubt that your friend w/ the full system "cant touch" your yoshi slip on bike. Yoshi slip ons are probably the best if not close to it, and fmf has lower power gains than most full systems, so this works to your advantage. But I dont know about that big of a difference. Have you switched riders to see if its just your ability shining through? Whats the gearing situation? Do both bikes have the airbox lid on or off? Could your bike beat his when both were stock? ETC.

Thanks for your help. I think I am going to stick to just a full exhaust and rejeting for now. Not sure what brand yet though. My lower rod bearing is causuing a knocking in my lower end at the moment and I am going to have the case split and all new bearings put in on my bottem end, which will cost me some money. Hopefully it doesn't take too long because I want to get back to riding.
