Default 2013 Sportsman HO overheat

Just bought a used 2013 Polaris Sportsman HO. I used it last weekend to tow my mower. Got the HOT message on the instrument panel after the mower got stuck briefly. I'm getting used to the belt transmission so I may have slipped the belt trying to get unstuck. Would this have caused the HOT message? I was told that some ATVs have a heat sensor in the belt area to warn you of a hot belt.
