I have a little 10-40 left... Is it ok to mix it with 20-50 to use it up or no?

Ok so I have like 2 or 3 partial quarts of oil and one is 10-40 weight. Just to use it up would it be ok to use it up by mixing it with my 20-50 oil? Both are Honda HP4 without moly and it's going in my 450R. Will this be ok or is it a no no? I don't see why it would hurt anything and I'm sick of looking at 2 half quarts of oil sitting on the shelf. Let me know ASAP, thanks.

As long as it is the same brand, it won't hurt to mix different viscosities, The only problems come from mixing oils with certain addatives that react with each other. With car oils, it isn't such a big deal, but with ATV rated oils, you have to make sure the additives are compatable, and the base oil is ok to mix with the rest. With all the racing oils that are mineral, ester, synthetic and petroleum based, you have to stay with one brand or type to prevent any engine damage. In your case, you're fine, they are basically the same oil with a different visosity index, you won't hurt the protection factor of the oil much by mixing it.

Hi for the amount of money it would cost, I would run the same oil instead of mixing it up. You most likely will be fine mixing... but for the money I would like the piece of mind of not having to worry about it.

Your oils are from the same manufacturer, so it is no big deal to mix them. (I would not however mix oils from different manufacturers.)
I mix oils in my Ranchers. We ride the eastern Sierra, and the rides start in the valley at 4,000', where the temperature is always around 100 degrees in the summer. But, the rides go up to over 10,000', where there is often snow, and sometimes very cold temperatures overnight. So, I mix 20W-50 and 10W-40 Honda GN4, to extend the range of my oil to cover the wide variety of temperatures.

As long as all the oils your using have the "starburst" symbol on them it is fine to mix them. It won't hurt a thing. I mean look at cars, if you are a quart low and stop by a gas station, are you not going to add the quart because it isn't the same brand?
