Default question on '04' 400 4x4 man.

I have never had the oil light come on and I was wondering if the light works at all. Is there anyway to check if the light is working or if its not even hooked up like pvwheeler said. Why would they even have it if it wasn't used? It would be a nice feature cuz U never know if the oil leaked out while u was riding hard. Thanks for anyone who knows about this.

So install a oil pressure switch and wire it in. All you need is a "T" in the oil line where it comes out of the engine to the cooler and run a wire to the plug for the oil lite and Bingo! you have what you want. But be warned, the likely reason they don't do this is a standard oil pressure switch is 10 to 15 psi and you may find that when warm and at idle you engine may run as low as 5 psi and your lite will come on. In that case you get to try and find an adjustable switch or a low psi switch.

SHAWNSCAT When do you hear the knock in your motor? I also have a 04 400 manual shift that knocks has 650 miles on it and has knocked from day 1 works great but don't like the noise. The dealer said it was the clutches working but sounds to me like the top end.I get the knock when the engine is lugging. Any idea's?

If it was a rod or piston knock you would have broke something by now. First off you shouldn't lug the engine, it's hard on them and the rest of the drive train and that's what the shifter is for, so you can down shift and get the engine back in it's power band. When you lug and engine the throttle is wide open at low rpms cause a rich condition and a lot of unburned fuel gets dumped into the exhaust where they burn and make noise. Also the deive train componets clatter alot when the engine is lugged. The only sound my '05 400 makes that I don't like is the gear whine in 4th and 5th gear, but like you I was told it is normal.
