Still love my raptor, but in order to get that thing to beat the yfz, its is going to have to get the 727 kit put in. THen your talkin some horsepower.
.............but as far as the normal mods (exhaust, intake, jetting, cams) the raptor will not beat the yfz. SORRY. And to all those who come back and say "rider makes the difference", well, yeah!! BUT were not talking rider against rider, were talkin machine vs machine.
Get the 727 or put nos on the raptor, then your talkin. the 686 doesnt do it, against my yfz in its current state, either. Then your also talkin reliability and longevity issues possibly rising.
IMO, the raptor is in a totally different class, and shouldnt be compared to the yfz. I love the raptor for trails, has reverse and is pretty comfortable.
IF, however, you do choose to go nuts with mods, and are looking to get serious horsepower for drag racing, then the raptor or banshee would be the way i go. Then you can go straight really really well, and beat as many yfz's as you want, till the first corner or woop section.
Havnt seen it yet, so cant comment, but wonder what the yfz 508 will do against the raptor 727??? Cant wait to see that one!!!

With my 686 I haven't had a problem with a YFZ to date. They usually run in the 5.3 or 5.4 range, even the yfz470. Most built Raptor's dip into the 4.9's and 5.0's with the faster Raptor's going all the way down to 4.281.

My Craycraft Signature 686 didn't have any trouble with piped/jetted/filtered YFZs as long as I had enough room to get into 3rd gear. No contest at all, I could reel them in at will. This was on a MX track - uphill, downhill, flats, etc. For short distances though, YFZs are surprisingly fast.

My raptor didn't have trouble with YFZ's (piped and jetted, nothing more) before I bored it. YFZ's are agile little machines and probably the best factory MX racer ever. They are not, however, some "SUPER BIKE to rule the industry" (seems like a sinister evil scientist type laugh is needed here). They are fast, but perform exactly as you would expect for a 449cc high compression engine.

I have been reading ATV Connection for awhile, but this is my first post. I had to reply to this one becuase I own both machines being compared. I have a Trinity 727 Raptor and a YFZ, that being said it is my opinion that the YFZ is going to be hard to beat. I havn't raced mine directly (Raptor is down with another J&E piston failure). But I have raced at least 3 other 727's and several 686's as well. All of my racing has been at Sand Mtn Ut. Any body thats been there knows the hills are steep and long. So hears the bottom line. The Raptors all ran hard, But all but 1 of them was looking at the back side of the YFZ. I would trade wins with the other. My YFZ is running a Rotax full race pipe, Ron Woods (Rotax) race intake, cam mod, YZ dirtbike needle and rejetted. ( I wiegh 190 ) Flat drags may be differen't, but as far as steep sand drags go the YFZ is going to be a force to be dealt with.
