yestreday i had 105 lbs compression with out disengaging the decompression lever so i put a teaspoon of oil into the cylinder and it went up to 170 lbs so i thought i had bad rings so i took of the valve cover took of my carb and someone posted a reply for me to check my valves to make sure that it was not them so last night i got everything to tdc and my exhaust valves were within spec but i could not get .0015 under either one so today i went and got new shims .15 mm thinner on both cam home put them in torqued everything down and did a compression check and i got 205 lbs with the decompression lever disengaged wonderful right? but i checked my clearance on my intake valves and the left intake was .004 and the right intake was .003 still to close i beleive so i will go get a couple more shims tomorrow and set it right, so i think i have figured out why i had really low compression i hope any comments? thanks to all you guys i think i have it fixed

I have some good advice for you. When you go to ride this thing after the valves are fixed; don't crank on the throttle wide open, or your going to be in for a BIG surprise!!!!!!!! (you'll be on your back)

hey doc i didnt know that valves could make that much of a differance, i put a 2.15 mm in the left intake valve and i got .006 clearance and i put a 2.20 mm in the right one and i got .005 clearance so i am gonna leave it at that and call it good unless someone thinks otherwise? i checked my compression one last time tonight and i got 190 lbs that is good to right? thanks guys
the guy at ron woods racing told me between 180 and 220 was good

Nice to have spare shims around anyways but, you can always use a knife sharpening stone to take a little off the shims if they are too fat. Haven't done this myself but, I've been told this is what the pro's do.
Buying the shims are a little of a pain but, I'ld still rather adjust the valves on my DS than do it on the Freekin' Raptor.

as you are sitting on the machine looking farward on the exhaust cams far right end there is a little lever that is spring loaded you can flip it back and forth, push it against the spring and put a little piece of rubber hose behind it you will see the space if you push it against the spring and look, but it cant be too long or else it will touch the shim when you roll it over, make sure you take it out when you are done, good luck thats all i can help you with this is my first time doing it sorry, if i told him wrong someone correct me please
