This does nothing for stability or widening, it actually makes handling worse if you mount your tires pointing in reverse.

Think about it. If you pop the tire off the bead and rotate them 180 degrees all you will have is your tread going in the opposite direction. You can get this same effect by putting the side of the tires that is supposed to be in, on the outside.

Thank you for "enlightening" me, but it seems as though you are not focused on the correct part of my post. The statement was that if the TIRES were flipped, the valve stems would then line back up. At least that is what I took it as.
