Melted fender and exhaust cover.
#1
While hunting this weekend I noticed that the side of my fender and the exhaust cover had melted, realized it when I touched it with my hand. It had melted where the screws attatch to the frame. Today I took the fenders and all off and saw that the problem was the factory heat shield tape had come off and it has totally melted the exhuast cover right down the middle and had melted some of the rear fender on the side. I went to the auto parts store and all I could find was some of the exhaust tape for mufflers so I bought some of that and taped it to the inside of the fender/exhuast cover for a temporary fix. It seems to be working ok but I need to permantly fix it.
I have a couple of questions
1-Where can I purchase this factory heat shield material?
2-Also where can I pick up a new exhaust cover. Mine is still ok, melted right down the middle where the pipe runs along side it. I would like to replace it for cosmetics. Also if I do get a new one will it have the factory heat shield already on it.
My atv is a 97 425 mag 4x4, been rode hard and put it wet but is a great atv. If it quit tonight I have gotten my $$$$$ worth out of it and it still runs perfect.

Polaris uses the heat shield tape that you want in greater quantity on their sleds. Go to the dealer and ask them to sell you some. If they sell sleds, and I assume they have a shop, they should have some. Triple layer the tape where you need it when you find it.
