Default Scrambler 400 4X4 problems, again

Hello again. As per everyone's advice here, I changed my front hub fluid on my 99 Scrambler 400 4x4. I used Mobil-1 synthetic ATF. What came out was nasty, thick black stuff full of fine metallic "powder". After the change, it still pulls VERY hard to the left after you go from reverse to forward. Any other ideas? Should I tear down the hub on that side, clean and put it back together? Also, I tried to change the counter balance fluid. None came out of the plug! Took out the fill plug and some very milky oil came out of it. Lastly, I went to change the rear differential fluid, but couldn't find where you fill it. The little dipstick on top of the motor with the screw slot--is that for the counter balance or is this where the rear diff fluid goes in? I really need to find a place to order a shop manual! Thanks for any replies.

Try changing the hub fluid again. It may take a few times to flush it out. If it doesnt help, you may just want to take them apart and clean them. Metal shavings are not good. There is not rear differential on the scrambler. Just the front "diff" and transmission. If your counterbalance fluid looked milky, I would be willing to bet that your counterbalance seals are going bad. Fix this ASAP before it causes more damage. Oh, you can order a manual right from pure polaris

Change the hub fluid a few times like BBS said but if you pull it apart you may need a manual to get it back together.Change the counter balance a few time too before you panic if the fuid has been in there along time it could just have moiture in it from condensation or where some one got into some deep water.

Thanks for the advice guys. When I removed the drain bolt to the counter balancer, nothing came out! Only once I removed the fill plug did anything come out. Where exactly do you fill the transmission? Is this where the dipstick is, or is that for the counter balancer? Thanks again

The dip stick on the back of the motor under the carb is the counterbalace dipstick. The tranny is a seperate unit and if it is like my 500 you will need to pull the driveshaft cover to get to the fill hole. Your best bet is to get you a manual before messing with it.
