Default Hard shifting tranny.

Hey. My tranny is shifting awefully hard. I have heard that changing the oil in it helps, but my dealer told me that would have nothing to do with it.

He said it needs to come apart and that I prolly have a bent fork. Anyone know how hard that is to change?

Any other ideas?

Hard shifting in forward or reverse? Is your linkage properly adjusted?

I have the tranny out, trying to shift it with just the bracket on top. Going from F-N-R, all of them are hard. Like, i have to put some weight behind it to get it to shift.

I pulled the tranny apart, I have never looked inside one, but as far as I can tell everything looks ok. All the gears are in great shape, nothing seems to be bent. The lube that was in there was in rough shape, and low. I am gonna try putting in fresh oil and see fi that helps. I dont know why it would because even though the oil was low, everything was coated good.

Does anyone know if maybe these just shift hard when they are not in? Like maybe it has to be spinning to shift easy, I dont know. I am hoping someone know because I dont want to get this thing together and not be able to shift it.

If I'm understanding this correctly, you are shifting it on a table or something like that? If so then once you put it in the bike you should be OK. The linkage make a lot of leverage difference. Even when some of us put the small extension on the tranny it makes the shifting a lot easier. Just being able to hold something still like having it bolted up can make all the difference.

Should be, especially with new oil(change that about once or twice a year by the way).........think of the leverage you will have on it now...........
