Default Clutch, Rebuild or what?

I need to do some tender loving care on the old clutch out of an 88 trailboss 250.. It is VERY noisy..

Soo.. question is..

What's the best thing to do? and what all does a guy have to replace to quiet it back down?

I know buttons I figure weights since i'm there. and those rollar things.. anything else?

do you think if I replace all those parts in the rebuild kit that will solve the issue of the noisy clutch??

I dont see why it wouldnt solve the noisy clutch. There may still be some noise. Its normal. Now, you dont have to buy the whole rebuild kit. You could just replace what you want. But, being that your machine is 16 years old, I think you are due for a full rebuild

Crank or rod bearing could be at fault. It is possible. But, the clutch can definately make an aweful sound that sounds a lot like piston slap. I would do the clutch first and see if that solves the noise problem. If not, then it may be time to freshen up the bottom end of the motor too.

well i'm pretty sure the bottom end needs a few things.. I pulled the clutch and started it and it was still slapping.. no where near what it was with the clutch though...

Any good place that sells a kit for the bottom end?

Your best bet would be to give Rick Ritter a call about that @ RCR

Oh, to take the primary clutch completely apart, you need a special holdign fixture tool. HPD sells them but they arent cheap. I am sure that if you by the parts and take it to your dealer, they wouldnt charge much to do the labor. Much cheaper than the $80 or whatever it is for the spider holding tool.

why do you need the special tool? does it hold it so it doesn't move or what?
