There is a special too used to removed the spider from the primary clutch. EPI sells the spider removal tool for $30. HPD sells the tool and holding fixture for $70. When you re-assemble the clutch, the spider has to be torqued to the clutch at 200 ft lbs. You need something solid to anchor the clutch to for that amount of torque

ya your right about that...... maybe I will just do it all except for the un-torquing and torq'n.. and ask the dealer to do the rest.. but.. then again.. they charge 1 hour minium.. so Imight as well just buy the blasted tool myself probably..

When I had my HPD aluminum buttons put in my secondary clutch, my delaer only charged me $20 to do it. That is crap that they charge a minimun of 1 hour! Any snowmobile shops around? They should have that tool too. Heck, a Kawasaki dealer might have it too for their clutches.

I haven't as of yet.. I exploring all possibilities so I know what the best route finacially is.. I'm kinda leaning to just getting one of there rebuilt ones.. mine is a little worn from the belt as well..

The mowhack salvage was the place for me..
The other places I checked didn't have kits that went back as far as the 88.. So in a sense I'm getting anew clutch.. or I guess an old one that has been gone through and rebuilt all I need to do is put my spring in and weights. (probalby put new weights in when I find out what they are) and i'm ready to go.. and a decent price as well.. Plus I don't have to do hardly any work!! for a 159 shipped to my house!!
now i'm ready to look into the lower end..
