Default Raptor leaking...maybe antifreeze

Hi, about 6 months ago, I set up a payment plan with a friend that he could take over the Raptor as long as he pays the bill every month. Well last week he lost his job, and now the Raptor is back in my hands. There are some minor things that need to be fixed: Front & Rear Grab Bars, most likely needs to be tuned up, all fluids changed, different nuts and bolts retightened, lights put back on, plastics needs to be replaced, lots of scratches and rips. The main thing that concerns me is that, on the right side (as if you were sitting on it) has a little cylinder with a huge hose coming out of it, it almost reminds you of a biohazard symbol that the hose is coming out of. I noticed today it was leaking a green liquid, so I instantly thought water pump gasket. I have checked the YamahaofTroy website, and the gasket is $5, but I want to make sure this is the water pump o-ring before I replace it. Thanks
John

There are 2 o rings in the water pump assembly. One is circular and the other is mostly circular with a rounded "bump" in it. You may want to get both and replace them. Your hose may be the issue as well.

My friend has the same problem, we asked the yamaha dealership what he should do and they said give it to them so they can replace all the seals and give him a big bill, we he did is put a different 0-ring on and it slowed the leak down, then i suggested grease and it fixed it.

What do you mean by grease? You found some leaking, you applied some? Where was the grease coming from if it was leaking?
Thanks for the replies so far.

We took the cover off where we put the new o-ring on, and also applied grease ( water repellent spelling?) around the o-ring and bolted it back up.

He has ran it for over 7 months of hard riding and no cooling problems.

Nice. I will give it a try when I go tomorrow to get the new o-rings. He has had the 4 wheeler for maybe all of 6 months, and has done more damage to it then anyone I know could. Even the reverse **** is duct taped into place. He had the head lights taken off and some truck fog lights hooked up. Note to myself...never set up a payment plan with someone

I agree, even if he is a friend.

I agree, even if he is a friend.
Especially if he is a friend, and very especially if its family. These kinds of deals never turn out well. My father sold a truck to my uncle on a payment plan. A few months later it was ours again and needed over a grand in work, not counting body damage.

Good luck with restoring your atv to proper condition.

Thanks. Couple hundred bucks and some time on eBay, it should be looking good, and everything should be operational.
