What do you mean you can't get the piston in the jug? It won't physically fit in the bore??? If so, the piston is too big or the bore is too small.

The rings have to be in an exact spot. There is a lil pin in the ring groove. The ring ends go where this pin is. It sounds like the ring is over a pin.
Does the piston slide in without the rings on the piston?

Like LT80 said it's probably the ring on top of the pin.
If you still can't get it in, take the rings off of the piston and stick them in the bore and measure the end gap with a feeler gage. If the ends butt you have the wrong rings.

Maybe not the wrong rings for the piston, but for the bore. If the rings don't have any clearance when in the bore, also check the size of the piston and the size of the bore, then make sure you have the right rings for the piston. If the rings are to big, you can file them to fit. Thats the way we used to do our drag race motors. Can you put the piston in upside down? (skirt first) The skirt of a piston is the biggest part, then they taper to the top.

Two strokes have an indexing pin. You can't file fit the rings on them. They are either the right or wrong size.
