What coolant for the DS
#1
My last race was mostly muddy. The whole machine was covered heavy. The radiator was caked and started to overheat. Moments later, I stopped. Due to another crash. As I was wiggling out from underneath it the radiator hose ripped or tore or burst, I don't know, but it was shooting coolant and steam everywhere. I flushed it all out like Hightower told me. Now I am ready to refill radiator and o/f tank.
My question is, I live in South Florida and want to know what coolant to use?
Thanks

I have heard a lot of good things about Cycle Logic Engine Ice
· Engine Ice has been proven to reduce operating temperatures by as
much as 50ºF
· Engine Ice is non-toxic and biodegradable and comes ready to go
pre-diluted

Engine Ice does not mix with water. If you are ever in a bind and need more collant you have to add more engine ice. Don't get me wrong I like the stuff. I run it in my DS. and keep some in my camper just in case i need to top off. If I was out in the boonies and needed a refill for some reason. I'd be screwed. Just something to think about is all. Engine Ice fer me.
From the engine ice website.
Engine Ice
What is Engine Ice Hi-Performance Coolant TM, what makes it different?
Engine Ice Hi-Performance Coolant tm utilizes a base fluid called Propylene Glycol. This base fluid has been proven to be relatively harmless to plants, animals and the environment, while being an excellent base fluid for an engine coolant. We take this non-toxic base, along with various inhibitors and dilute it with the most pure water possible, Deionized Water.
Why is Engine Ice Hi-Performance Coolant TM pre-diluted?
Engine Ice Hi-Performance Coolant TM is pre-mixed with de-ionized water. The process of de-ionizing water eliminates all of the impurities that can do harm to your cooling system. Regardless if you are using tap, bottled, distilled, spring or R/O (reverse osmosis) waters, it can still contain minute particles of iron, magnesium, rust, lime and calcium. Many of these waters also contain chemicals, such as chlorine, fluorides and acids. Want proof? Take two different brands of distilled waters and perform your own taste test. They each taste different don't they? If water were water, why would they be different? It's because of the varying amounts of chemicals and minerals in these waters. These minerals and chemicals are what is the cause the scarring, scaling and mineral build-ups in your cooling system. Many also attribute these minerals and chemicals to water pump seal and gasket failures.
Since it's already mixed with water (deionized) other than diluting the mixture I don't see why adding some water in a bind would hurt anything. jmo.

So Prestone is not a reccomended choice?
After reading the Engine Ice page, I feel a little guilty. I hope nothing is affected from my spill out in the woods.
Busmechanic, is Coolanal similar to this Engine Ice?

Engine Ice is over priced imo. Whether or not it keeps the motor cooler I don't know. Other antifreez's will do the job just fine I'm sure. I was just looking for a way to help keep the motor cooler so if it does what it says then thats good enough for me.
