Modelers/Engineers.....

Hey guys.........next semester I'm taking some more modeling classes(I'm in Mechanical Desktop now(Autocad))......I have the choice of learning solidedge or inventor(Autodesk), so which do you guys think is better, or more neccessary?? I want to take the one that there is more need for, so I could possibly get a job if need be. I'm thinking inventor now, but not for sure.
I'm also taking ProEngineer Wildfire........that should be fun.

Solid edge. Autodesk products are way behind in capabilities and power, no one in big universities or big companies even bothers to install it on thier computers.
The big three all use Unigraphics, and solidedge and solidworks are building blocks to that. Autodesk uses point based modeling, while the big boys use constraint based modeling.

I learned the hard way, went from 4 years of auto desk products to a freshman unigraphics class. I wish I would have had solid edge to make the transition, as it took me until almost the end of the course to learn how to work unigraphics.
It's easier if you've never modeled in your life than if you have gotten used to auto desk. So yeah, spare yourself the pain and get a better program to boot.

I am a machinist at a design/manufacturing company in the bay area in CA. We do mainly medical and optical prototype/product development work. We use Solidwork's for all our modeling as do the majority of our customer's.
