Default ATV for snow plowing

I have a 1986 350 Fourtrax I just bought with a snow plow. Does anyone have any experience trying to push snow witha an ATV? How effective can I expect this to be? Would added weight to the machine help? Thanks

Hey, yeah i use my 2000 Arctic cat 400 4x4 to plow. I have a 60 inch moose plow. It does a good job, it is accually alil fun at the same time I have a 2 paved driveways to plow, on pavement it does a good job, but i dunno how well it would do on gravel. No the added weight could not help the atv, but as long as your dont ram into a solid frozen snowbank, i dont think its goign to hurt it too bad. You can be pretty effective with it, depends how big your plow is too. One thing to remember is when you get the first snow, make sure you push the snowbanks back pretty far, this way when it snows again you can have room to put the snow. You realy arent going to be able to move that frozin solid snowbank you made. Hope this helps

I have never liked clearing my driveway of snow...until I bought my wheeler. It is not only a very effective way to move snow it is a blast. I had a snowblower and it would take me an hour to do the driveway..and was no fun....with the wheeler and the plow it is done in no time and I enjoy the job

I agree, it is actually fun and VERY effective. I couldn't believe how much snow I could move. Make sure you get a 60" blade so that when you angle it you are still driving on an area that your plow hit. A smaller blade will be narrower than your wheeler and you end up trying to drive through unplowed snow which is much more difficult. Trust me, even your 350 has plent of guts, power, weight, whatever to push lots of snow surprisingly fast. Have fun.

Plowing snow with an ATV is a lot of fun. They work really well, unless the snow is really deep. 4WD machines work better, but many people use 2WD machines with their plows. Put it this way...your neighbors will like you, because chances are that once you finish your driveway, you'll be plowing all of their's too. It's pretty contagious.
