Get a 400ex! They're great and I know because I have one. The brakes are good and so is the suspension for a stock quad. They don't overheat very often as lonk as u stop every once in a while. After maybe an hour or so. This is one of the best quads ever built! And also reliable.

Hell yes the EX will feel underpowered compared to the KX. I used to ride bikes as well, 4 and 2 strokes. The 400EX has good power after you mod it..but stock its pretty gutless.

Yep the 400 ex doesn't have as much power because dirtbikes most of the time have more power especially KTM.

Ok, how the heck do you compare 2 stokes vs 4 strokes? There two totally different catagories...depending on the bike, alot of 2 strokes are faster than 4 strokes and then again vice versa.

A 2 stroke get's a power shot twice for every power shot that the 4 stroke gets. So generally a 400 4 stroke is the same as a 200 2 stroke. Although this isn't the case because of the way the powebands are, 4 strokes usually follow the following math equation whereas x represents the displacement of a 2 stroke.

y=1.5x

Overheating is rarely a problem on the 400EX. They have a very large and effective oil cooler. Radiators, hoses, and water pumps can break on liquid cooled quads. Any extreme conditions that would cause a 400EX to overheat such as too much mud caked on cooling fins and oil cooler would have caused a liquid cooled quad to overheat similarly.

The 400EX will be fine, I went from a CR500 to the 05 400EX, it's just a different riding style, you'll get used to it.

How is the '05 400ex? I heard the gear ratios were revised. Can the previous 400ex's get a higher top speed than the '05? And how is the reverse on the 2005?

The 05 actually has a taller 5 gear, but the earlier models came with a 15 tooth front sproket whereas now it sports a 14. But even my freinds 04 w/14 doesn't seem to fall very far behind. Overall I think they tried to keep the bike similar by changing gear ratios to help with the extra 12 lbs of the bike. The reverse is awesome, you never realize how much you'd use it untill you have it.It is kind of a pain in shifting, but they make a kit to move the **** to the handlebars to make it a lot easier to shift into reverse.
