Default Just rode scram w/ new clutch kit

OK, im at the new shop i found, hes putting a new primary clutch kit into these 2 ,04 scrams, (exactly what i want to do to mine) So he said come back in an hr and give it a ride and see if you notice a difference. It very well made a difference as it was like a 'powerband'. Now heres the thing that im not sure of. When you give it gas it takes that split second for the gears to catch then it "bangs" you into the boost. Unlike what im used to on my stock where when you give it gas it goes like when you step on the pedal of an automatic car/truck. He kept on referring to it as " its like when you dump a clutch in a mustang or porshe" and persisted that this is normal. My thinking is that this not good. I could be wrong when it comes to the scram when you do this high performance to it , but when your dumping a clutch ,persay and the quad is 'banging' into gear it just doesnt seem right. DOES is suppose to do this and is this normal and safe ? Id like to know your opinions because i do want to have this done to my scram. Thankyou

Once you learn the engagment of a clutch you adjust how you take off and it isnt rough at all.It is like a high stall torque converter on a car.

It is a stall, it is a stronger spring. That way your clutch belt will not slip.

So pretty much its just getting used to it, while taking off and slamming the breaks into a corner then roosting out of it.

Sounds just like the complete hot seat (I think it was hot seat, the wife bought it for me as a birthday present) kit that I put in my 99 Sport 400. It was new weights, new primary spring, new secondary spring and new helix. I like it a lot. It made it much easier to pull wheelies on grass and dirt. It makes it easier to break the big heavy stock tires loose to slide a corner. If you are completely off of the throttle for a couple seconds and then get on it pretty hard, it will "bang" as you say. To keep from doing the "bang", keep on the throttle (Even a little helps) when slowing down and use a touch more brake while slowing say for a real tight woods turn. If you are uncomfortable doing that, get back on the throttle with a degree of control (Don't slam it) as said by "ftwflh". My has been that way since 2000 and although I don't get out as much as I want to, it has never been a problem. Definitely worth it.

The only downside to a clutch kit is that you CANT creep up hills, go over logs or rocks easily. It gets too snappy. It is great for med to fast trails, raceing or hill climbing. This is one reason I really dont ride my Trailblazer much anymore. I do alot of trailriding and have been in way too many hairy situations. You HAVE to match it to YOUR riding habbits.

Man, i love this forum, I didnt even think of that. and your soooo right. I just wish that i could have the advantage of the clutch kit, w/out the Second hesitation for the power to kick in. Im sure theres a way though. Thanks for your input, cuz i mostly do techincal trail riding. and love to explore.
