HRC installed...now won't start
#1
Ok...had the dealer install the HRC kit today on my 450r. I didn't have time to run home from work and get the trailer so I went and picked up the key and had them leave the quad outside so I could come straight back and pick it up. Once I got back with the trailer I decided to test the quad out in the parking lot...just to see if I noticed any difference. Keep in mind I only had enough space for third gear. Anyway...I am used to this quad starting on the FIRST kick EVERYTIME. I hopped on and began to slowly kick the kick starter over once before actually starting. ( I always do this...I dont know why) Anyway right away I notice that the kicker doesnt want to move. Very stiff. Try again...and again...finally getting it to start. Ride around a couple of times...felt great. Get home...I cannot turn the kick starter over. I get pissed and put all of my weight on just to see if the kick starter will move. Nothing. I tried several times with no luck. What do you guys think happened? Did the tech forget to reset auto compression clearances. That is the only thing I can come to!

Installation was right at $200. I really should have done it myself but I thought I could save some time and get some more ride time in on Thursday. Guess that went out the window!

The total for kit and installation was right around $475. Oh and I found out today what the problem was . Stuck auto decompressor spring. The dealer ordered and overnighted the part(tiny little spring)...so hopefully I will still be riding this weekend.

You are having the same problem that almost every 450r is having. there is a piece of the casting that fell of the inside and has jammed between the kick starter and the side if the case. remove the kick-starter and then remove the side cover then remove the jammed piece of metal put it all back together and enjoy

Nah...I think what you are referring to are the few problems some owners have had with the crank failure. This particular quad has barely even been run. It turned out to be a faulty spring. No big deal.

lol, of course it was the tiny little spring! have u ever seen one of those things taken apart (auto decompression device)? i saw one at the dealer the other day, it's like a swiss watch! sooo many little parts. glad to hear that u got it fixed.
very few people are having problems with the crank failure. i know of 4 or 5.
