Default Brake bleeding ??

Have a 1999 Sportsman 335 4x4 and I was wondering what the proper procedure was for complete system disc brake bleeding??? reason I'm asking is I can't seem to get all the air out of the rear caliper( foot brake side)!!!!

Thanks SEPPI

Default Brake bleeding ??

I think a lot of the polaris's have the same problem I have a 99 and a 2003, both with the same problem and the newer ones are the same. I have 2 friends thought just bought new 04's and both have the same problem. I think the resivior might be too small, am thinking of a upgrade from a motorcycle with a bigger resivior any thoughts?

To properly bleed your brakes you need two people or a bleed kit. Just make sure that you tighten the bleed valves before letting off the brake lever. another trick is to leave the lever compressed over night. This allows the psiton to remain open and any remaining air bubbles can surface up inside the reservoir. Just make sure you check the reservoir the next morning to top off if needed.

As for the change it isn't the size of the resrvoir but the size of the piston. The smaller piston just can't put the neccessary pressure to get the brakes to lock up. You need to change out for a larger piston. I have bled mine on my 04 sportsman. When I received it from the dealer I wasn't able to remain stopped on a hill. after bleeding the rear brake I can atleast stop and remain stopped on a hill. It doesn't lock the rear end up like I wanted. The dealer told me it is only there as an emergency brake.

A tool called Mighty Vac has been the only way i have been able to bleed the rear foot brake caliper. It sucks fluid through the bleeder screw.

You can bleed them using two people. Just have one pushing on the lever and keeping the reservoir full. while the other one opens and closes the bleed valve. Just make sure you don't open them too far. You only want them open so the fluid runs out. Any further then it will allow air back in the lines. As soon as the main pressure is relieved from the line you want to close it back up. As soon as the valve is closed have the person let off the lever and then push down again. Repeat the process until you stop getting air bubbles and the lever is tight. Then put some weight on the lever to hold it down and leave over night. This keeps the piston open and allows any remaining air to surface up into the reservoir. The next morning check your fluid levels in the reservoir and you should be finished. This should give you a solid feel on the lever.

As long as the brakes are leaking it won't hold pressure and will allow air into the system. You first must fix the leaks or have them fixed by the dealer before the warranty runs out. Once your system can be sealed then you should be able to pressurize the brake lines.
