Default Eton Viper90 mods

Hey im new to the site. I ride a CRF150, but my little brother is the one with the Eton and he needs sum more power. It is basically bone stock except a 13 tooth couter-shaft sprocket I put on it, so i was looking for sum cheap and effective mods

P.S. i heard you can tweak the cdi box on the 2005's more info on that would be appreciated

There is a dial on the 2005 cdi to raise the rpm limit, but what's the point if it just flat won't turn more rpms?

There is no such thing as cheap mods. Anybody says different is trying to sell you something. You can try venting the airbox and rejetting but I wouldn't expect miracles. Pipe and clutch kit would probably give the most effective gain.

.

To learn foundation information on how to obtain "more" performance out of your Viper, surf:

http://www.superflygirl.net/powerband.htm
Note: Applies to motocross engines but its base foundation does apply to quad engines.

http://www.off-road.com/atv/kidskorn...vupgrade2.html

http://www.off-road.com/atv/kidskorn...vupgrade3.html

http://www.off-road.com/atv/kidskorn...vupgrade4.html

http://www.off-road.com/atv/kidskorner/clutching1.html

If you turn your little brother's unit "into a rocket", he might NOT be able to handle it, or its stock suspension may NOT be able to hand it. Many people who upgrade their engine perfomance also upgrade their suspension system as well. I alway recommend people upgrade their suspension system first, then turn it "into a rocket." later.

For details on suspension system upgrades, surf:

http://www.off-road.com/atv/kidskorner/suspension1.html

http://www.off-road.com/atv/kidskorner/suspension2.html

http://www.off-road.com/atv/kidskorner/suspension3.html

In addition to these suspension upgrades, you may also need to strengthen the factory frame. It all depends how much "pounding" your little brother plans to do with his future rocket.

As mentioned above. All upgrades cost. You upgrade one part and its supporting part usually needs to be upgraded as well. Perform a few upgrades every QTR and within a few short years, its a rocket. Then, it's time to sell it and to a bigger frame unit. Unless you have a little / little brother to pass the upgraded unit down to.

Hope this info helps....

A clutch kit doesn't make H.P it allows the engine to run at the rpm where it makes the most hp.Don't forget these little bikes are totally automatic so if it makes power at 9000 rpm and the clutching makes it run at any other rpm its not reaching its potential.Adding mods to a two stroke such as a pipe generally raise the power to a higher rpm and sacrifice low rpm power. If you don't readjust the clutching to help the engine reach the new rpm the quad will likely be slower than it was stock because it has lost low end power and can't reach the new higher rpm needed to make the new mods work. Also the clutching isn't really optimum even for a totally stock engine.More performance can be had just by changing the roller wieghts on most mini's.Also when comparing costs about mods you can't really compare dirtbikes to these little mini's as the mini's have way more restrictions to keep them slowed down so it takes a little more $ to wake them up.
