I finished the install of my warn 2.5 winch. However, when I disengage the drive, the cable will not pull out freely. I am forced to feed it out with actually turning the winch on. This tends to take allot of time. Is this common or is there an adjustment…?? Thanks

 

What quad do you have?

The reason I ask, is because I have a Twin Peaks (Prairie), and mine is the same way.......and I have an idea as to what the problem may be.

 

I have a p700...so we have the same bike....What is your idea?

 

Take this for what it's worth......

According to the instructions for the winch, the rope is supposed to come over the top of the spool to go out the fairlead. Now, looking at the winch (unmounted) while it's laying flat.......in order for the rope to come over the top of the spool and then out.......the power terminals would be on the left, and the drive disconnect would be on the right. Okay........due to the mounting plate we have to use, the winch cannot be mounted that way - - - the terminals are on the right, and the disconnect is on the left. Essentially, the winch is upside-down.......and the rope comes off the spool from the bottom.
My guess is that the disconnect only works correctly if the unit is mounted right-side-up......with the terms on the left, and disconnect on the right. There may be some kind of slide or pin that "should" move out of place to disconnect the drive, but because of our mount, gravity is keeping it in place.

I don't know if this is the actual problem, but it's the only thing I can come up with.............
