Danielle,
I'll let you in on a secret. Not everyone pulls up to the track in a sweet rig with mechanics that jump out and set everything up for you, including your bike. If you want to race, here's what you do. Go to your local track and find out who sanctions it, that is, what riding organization is in charge of the races that take place there. Next, you sign up to become a member of that organization. You can usually do this via their website, or by going to the sign-in booth at the track. You have to pick a class to race in, so pick one you think suits your riding ability and your bike set up. Most tracks have women's classes, but it also depends on rider turnout. Don't shoot for the moon right away, sign up in a beginner class if it's your first time on a track.
Then you want to make sure your bike is ready to race. Most sanctioning bodies require a minimum of things like number plates (at least one), nerf bars and a tether kill switch. And you want to make sure you're ready physically.
I remember my first race. I showed up late, had to register rider membership with the CRA and to race that day. I had to scrounge the pits for a number plate and numbers, and I missed practice. I went 2-2 for the day on a stock raptor behind a killer 250R. This was just a few years ago.
So, while you may not have a pro set up, you don't have to. That's the great thing about this sport. Just throw her in the bed and head to the track. I also recommend that you protect yourself and get some good gear. And remember, be PaTieNT...
What kind of a quad do you have, and where is Orangevale?
