650 Coolant leak..FYI
#1
For a while now I have been smelling coolant especially after a cold start.I looked and looked and could not find it.I know that even a drop can smell so I knew it was small.Well I found it tonight. The hoses that connect to the thermostat housing were loose,or at least one was. When I finally got the front fender off so I could get to the hose clamps they were VERY loose.I am not sure if the hoses are starting to shrink with some age or if maybe the front motor bolt being loose allowed the engine to drop enough to pull the hose but they were loose. It was the one coming off the frt cylinder head.It makes a 90 degree turn right at the housing. If you smell coolant and can't find it this is probably it.

I found that, on the radiator hose down to the waterpump, (on the water pump end)the clamp was broken from OVER TORQUING at the factory! I found it 30 miles from the truck, out in the mtns. of WVa. Luckily, I was able to use a tie-wrap as a temporary hose clamp......

The thing I hate about coolant is you can smell one tiny drop.Mine was dripping down the hose and hitting the front exhaust pipe.I guess maybe it's good you can smell it.

kodiac1----- I am that way with gasoline. I can smell 2 drops, from a mile away.....................
Do check that hose clamp on the water pump inlet. It is easiest to remove the engine skid, and jack it up, and crawl under.
