440 cracked sleeve 10 hrs
#1
I just installed a new advanced sleeve with a 89mm weisco piston and a stage 2 hotcam, I have only rode this for about 10 easy hrs and the sleeve is already cracked, any advice would help !!!!

The problem is not the cracked sleeve, its finding out why it happened and how to prevent it for the next time. It wouldn't do ya any good to slam a new piston and sleeve in her and have the exact same thing happen.

Take the jug to a second machine shop. Ask them if it looks like it was bored correctly, to take the big bore sleeve.

Yes, and it could be heat related too. No large cooler tank installed?

I have an 87mm and have had it hot racing. It hasn't done anything like that. I guess, though that the aftermarket sleeve could be more brittle then the stock one over bored.
Did you call Advanced and ask about them covering a bad sleeve.

you need to bore your case so the sleeve fits in. there needs to be a little play. the sleeve and case won't expand at the same rate. when the sleeve expands more than the case, the sleeve pressure is exerted on the case from teh sleeve. then you need to realize the piston is moving up and down quickly. this can quickly lead to a cracked sleeve.

Make sure the sleeve doesn't make any contact with the trans cases, there has to be room for expansion due to heat. The contact creates a hot spot and puts unwanted pressure on the sleeve, look for a shiney spot on the cylinder bore with more wear than the rest. You have to grind the trans cases to make room if there's any sleeve contact.......
