Default Electrical issues...opinions needed

Hey guys, I'm having some problems with my 2000 DS. On my first ride on Halloween in Gordons Well, my bike started sputtering, and would die unless I just barely feathered the throttle. It would then clear up, and run fine for a while, then do it again. It was almost like I had water in my fuel. Since we drove thru a huge amount of rain on the way up, I figured this was the problem...maybe some had made it's way into my fuel jugs, etc.
Well, when I got back, I pulled the tank, drained it, removed the petcock, and let it dry out. I also removed my carb, took it apart, and cleaned it out too. Inside the carb was perfectly clean, no debris, etc.
I put it back together, and took it for a spin around my neighborhood for about a 1/2 hour. It seemed to run fine. The following weekend we went out for a trail ride, and it immediately started sputtering, and running like crap again. It then got so bad it wouldn't restart after it died the last time.
The only changes I'd done to the bike before all of this was to put on a RWR CDI I purchased from another member. I tried putting my stock CDI back on to see if this was the problem, but even after doing so, it still won't start. It will turn over, but just not fire up. I have had to charge the battery a few times, and I'm wondering if this may have smoked something, possibly the rectifier, etc.... I did a search, and didn't find any conclusive info.
Any help, or suggestions you all can offer would be greatley appreciated.
Justin

Maybe bad sparkplugs, if not I would test the coil, then I would check the kill switch at the handlebars.

I had the same problem because my carb was dirty. I took it apart and cleaned it and it ran fine

are you running your original battery? The Ds needs a good strong healthy battery to operate properly- load test the battery. The test for checking the rectifier and stator are in the manual and are very straight forward. The other thing I'd check is to make sure that the fuel vent hose on the tank is not pinched...some of your symptoms resemble lack of fuel flow. Change plugs as a precaution and check your ground and battery connections. My trigger coil failed on my 2000 last year and was very intermitent and and was a pain to diagnose- you'll just have to eliminate one item after the other till you find the culprit.

I would guess it is the battery.

I don't think it's the original battery...I picked this bike up last Feb, and the battery looks pretty beat. I'll get the battery load tested this week, however I don't have a manual...I'll look into getting one though...might as well pony up for one. Knowing Bomb, it's probably quite spendy.
I don't have the stock vent hose on my bike...I removed it awhile back, and now have the same diameter hose running out of a small hose in my shroud. The hose runs down by my steering stem, and comes out behind the radiator...nothing seems to be pinching it. I've checked the connections, and everything seems to be clean and tight. I'll double check again, especially the coil wires at the spark plug boots...I did check my plugs before I left on my trip, but didn't change the gap...I may have pulled one of the wires part way out of one of the boots...
Thanks for the idea's fellah's, I really appreciate them.
