2001 250 4x2
#2
I have a 2000 250 4x2, if you are considering this machine here is some advise before you buy that would have saved me $$$$ if I would have known: 1) Don't take it off the show room floor without rear boot gaurds I didn't have them and tore a boot, not noticing it I drove with it torn and had to replace the whole axle costing me about $300 canadian(my dealer gave me it at cost). 2) I had trouble with backfiring and after months of rejetting my carb to no avail, they gave me a new mufler from a 300 which fixed the problem. I don't know if they changed the mufler on the 2001, that might be something to ask a dealer. Now with that stuff out of the way I would tell you that for the price, no other bike will touch this bike, it is smooth, has enough power with the dual range, and is fun to drive. Some people will say that the recon has this class won but park a recon next to this bike and you wouldn't believe they are even in the same class not to mention the AC is cheaper.

Hey Jason, I have a AC 500 I have not rode a AC 250 but I have rode a AC 300 4x4. Believe me when I tell you thar the Recon has this class wrapped up in every way except confort. The Recon will out handle and outrun the 250 or 300 for that mater. It is a torque monster. I have two fellow club members that have te Recons. They are nice but awful expensive for a 250. The backfiring on the 250 & 300 is kind of common on down hill runs. Hope you enjoy yours. You ought to ride a Recon once It will suprise you. It did me!!!
Ride safe!!!!

Peltrax,
If you are considering buying one, take a look at the 300 class Cat's at very least. Personally, I would never even consider a 250 Cat. Why?? Because these things are built like tanks and the 250 just wouldn't have the power for it.
Now before anyone rips my face off for saying that, understand that my wife owns a 99 300 2x4.
Awesome machine!! Rides like a Cadillac compared to most other 300 class machines. Just a little underpowered for such a big frame bike. I can't imagine putting a SMALLER motor in that frame.
Just my opinion,

I agree the recon is a nice little bike I almost bought one, it is just that they are so small compared to the AC. As far as power goes, if you are talking about speed I have ridden with Honda 450es, Yamaha BB, and several other machines and have never had a problem keeping up and the width of the this machine lets me take corners at great speeds, and as far as torque is concerned with the low range transmission you can't beet it. Keep in mind when I say this I only paid $4700 Canadaian for this machine which is equvalent to under $3500 US.
