Default Newbie Question: Which ATV?

Hello all!. I'm in the market for a utility quad in the 400cc range and what just wondering what your guys advice would be. I pretty much narrowed it down between suzuki eiger and yam kodiak. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! P.S mostly used for trail riding and moderate farm work.

Default Newbie Question: Which ATV?

Hey Tripster

You may want to consider the Honda Rancher 400AT. I have had mine for about a year and a half now and it's been great!! My family owns a fishing lodge in Quebec and I am constantly using it for hauling firewood and gasoline in a trailer...5 to 8 hundred pounds at a time, launching boats for our guests and, when time permits, getting out on the trails. It does everything I have EVER asked it to do and the Hondamatic transmission is SWEET.

Just a thought, and happy hunting!!

What about the Sportsmen 400? it has the most towing , 1250 lbs.
it has true all wheel drive, IRS , handles good . oh yeah dont be fooled with that it's soooooo havy the havyness is a good thing makes it very stable and tough! and dont foget, it is 425cc wen the kodiak 450 it only a 413 or somthing . and the eiger has a somwhat small motor too.

Is it the kodiak 400 or the 450....you probably already know the differences, (plus the 05 450 having IRS).
This post may not help you decide on a machine, but for your application, they both would work well.

Good choices, I am sure you considered many makes/models before narrowing it down to these machines. I ride with a buddy who has an 03 kodiak 450, which is really similar in power and fuel mileage with my 04 eiger. Both automatics, SRA and 4x4s. Comparing reliability between the two is as follows:
Eiger problems to date: none, 750miles
Kodiak 450 problems to date: leaking rear driveshaft seal, loose steering, stubborn shifter - all repaired under warranty, 600miles
With the 450 you get locking front diff, rear disk brake, digital dash, pushbutton 4x4, but for more $$.
Both offer a low range which is nice to have.
We both ride similar, I might ride a little more aggressively (of course, by buddy would disagree...)
Very comparable machines side by side, but they do differ in ride feel. I believe that a good dealer is also a plus (my dealer had both suz and yam products). Good luck.

joe.

Loose steering is not a problem. It is a benefit of the way the yamaha's handle. I have driven yamahas all my life problem free.

I know someone with an eiger, but I have never ridden it. He really seems to like it though. I would test drive both and see what feels better to you.
