Does your Sportsman steering do this?
#1
My quad has been engaging in 4x4 with the switch off, and is stuck in 4x4 now.
I noticed that when mine is in 4x4 on hard pack the steering goes left to right and the handlbars do the same. On the jackstands when all 4 are spinning the steering goes left and right as the drive shaft spins.
I figure it has something to do with the drive shaft being on an angle to the front unlike on other quads where it's straight.
Normally if the 4x4 was working correctly and coming on in very slick conditions you would never feel this, but since mine is stuck in 4x4 I can feel it as I drive. Yes, I tried the going into reverse trick many times. I think the sticking 4x4 may have to do with the cold weather. I really don't know right now.

What do you think?

I have had my four wheel drive stick for instance about 3 weeks ago we got about 5" of snow so I was out riding. I had my quad in 4-high and i was going through a not so wide river but it was about 2' deep. Everything under the quad was wet and when I finished passing through the river I stoped and moved my 4 wheel drive switch to the off position and I started on my way. Everything was fine till I got off the trail and back onto the back road to my friends house then WOOWWWW the steering was all messed up my wheels were going everywhich way and VERY hard to steer. I pulled off the side of the road and but it in reverse and held in my override button and cruised in reverse for about 50 feet then but it back into high range and starting moving forward and the damn thing was still in 4-high so I just kept riding like that till I was stopped and my friends house geting ready to shut it off and I hear a click and then I rode around and it was no longer in 4-high. I just think our quads are alittle goofy. Did you get if out of fourwheel drive yet?

Once in AWD it can't disengage until the front wheels spin faster than the rear. The motion of the front wheels spinning faster than the rear realeases pressure off the roller pins in the front clutch and allowing them to release.

Hello jefffoxsr. 20045SP500HO is right. The front wheels need to go faster than the rears to disengage. The problem is, on slippery surfaces, the front tires will not produce enough torque on the pig to disengage. Next time, try stopping, put in 2WD, put it in reverse. Hold the hand brake slightly and give it enough gas to get the rear wheels to spin slightly. The hand brake applies torque to the front to allow the 4WD to disengage.
I hope this helps
