Does anyone know what the internal gearing is on the Baghira 660 or SZR 660 is? I wonder if it is the same as the Raptor.

UPDATE: I found another bike Yamaha makes called the SZR 660. Same motor. Guess what...same internal gear reduction ratio as the Raptor. This is definately one of the reasons that the Raptor is geared so high! So why did'nt Yamaha change the internal gearing...maybe safety issues or cost. Why not change the front sprocket....probably did'nt want to raise any eyebrows with a goofy 10 tooth front sprocket.
check out the specs on this machine.
SZR660 specifications
ENGINE TYPE Liquid-cooled, 4stroke SOHC, 5valve, 1Cylinder
DISPLACEMENT 659.7cc
BORE & STROKE 100x84mm
COMPRESSION RATIO 9.2:1
MAX. POWER 48HP
STARTING SYSTEM ELECTRIC
CARBURATION Y26PV(TK)
TRANSMISSION 5-speed transmission(1down/4up)
PRIMARY REDUCTION RATIO 71/34(2.008) <-----
SECONDARY REDUCTION RATIO 39/15(2.600)

I can give the site if anyone wants it (long name)

Nice work, I would imagine that cost was the initial consideration to not changing the internal gearing. As it could easily fixed by changing the sprocket.

No biggy, I can live with that...

Yeah, that will do it. Apparantly, the problem does'nt come up until the burden of carrying that much gear is too much (4-5th gear) and the machine just flattens out. Note: 4th gear is almost exactly 1:1 and 5th gear is "overdrive".

That's why it won't run like it should in the sand.

Yes I have a million times (it seems), check out the primary reduction ratio of what I posted compared to the primary reduction ratio of the Raptor. Same thing. With the 13/40 secondary reduction ratio of the Raptor, the overall gearing is much higher (numerically lower) than other quads.

My first impression after riding mine is that it is geared like a street bike. The Raptor pulls hard in all gears, but first and second are too far apart. I just finished putting on my 12 tooth sprocket and a ride down the street feels like I lost most of my top end, yet first is still very long. They should have made this a 6 speed.

What would the consequences of a 12 tooth sprocket with a set of 22" holeshots be? same, different, better or worse?

Does it pull harder on top? It seems it should by a bit. What brand of sprocket did you go with?
