I got my bearing carrier out the other day. It appears to be aftermarket, billet aluminum. My main concern is if the all ***** bearing and seals I bought will work in this. They appear to be the same diam but they are alot narrower, almost half as wide as the ones I took out of the carrier. So if I used the sleeve that was in it, the contact surface with the axle will be narrower than before. Also, in the first pic you can see where I buggered up the lip from "tapping" it out. Thats on the right side of the bearing. I think that can be repaired though.... Anyway, the numbers on it are "L8-H1-07/98)"

Also, I pulled the jug off. The top end is supposed to be brand new with 0 hours. It looks clean and its ported well, but there are some score marks on the cylinder Im worried about. Im havin it mic'ed this Saturday. Anyway I dont know what kind of top end it is or who made it so maybe someone could give me a hint with these pics. The numbers on the top of the piston are:

Just a hunch, and likely not right, but the carrier photos (along with your description) look like a twinrow bearing carrier. The "L" being in the part number makes me think of "Lonestar". Might want to start there and give them a call. I'd say that your bearings will not work. A twin row carrier is designed around the twinrow bearings... simply installing the single row bearings is going down a path with a bad ending.

I checked out Lonestar's site and it looked identical. I emailed them asking if they could help me identify it with the numbers. Hopefully they can get me some new bearings...Thanks for the idea.....As for the motor Im gettin it checked out Saturday up in PA....

U can get twin row bearings for aftermarket carriers on ebay for like 25 bucks. I did. and if u had to run narrower stock bearings in an after market carrier jsut to be able to ride i wouldnt wory. jsut make sure the axle is always tight. i have oem honda bearings in my lonestar carrier and havent had a problem yet.

Im restoring the entire quad so Id rather have the correct parts. I contacted Lonestar and they said it IS their carrier, and the rebuild kit is $105. I think I may take your suggestion on ebay first, but if I cant find anything good I'll go with Lonestar's parts.
I took the motor up to Fast Mann Racing up in PA. He said the top end is brand new, and the piston is a Wiseco 3.5mm over(I think .040" or something). And also the porting job looks real well. SO I can put her back together and she's ready to go. I was glad to hear that....
