Is there way to Unseize an Engine
#1
I have recently purchased a DS 650 quad with a seized motor. It was run a few times then seized after changing to Alcohol. I have used break fluid in the past on cast engines not sure what this will do on Aluminum engines. Anyone have experience with this?

You maybe able to get it spinning but the shavings and debris that is in the engine now will just damage more stuff. Take it apart and find out why it happened, and clean it out..... cranks are spendy

that atf in the cylinders trick is only good for engines that have seized due to years of setting (not running). if it seized when it was running. you would be waisting your time to try and "unseize" it.

Rich807,
Yes, I want to break it lose enough to get the piston out, sleave and so on. I was told it ran good till he shut it down then it got hot and because of the tight tolerances it seized tite. It was not run to the point it got real hot and seized, it was hot after it sat for a little while that is what I was told at least. I did have ATF fluid in it for a week with no affect just was wondering if there was a fluid that would work plus would not hurt the Aluminum. I will see what response I can always go back to brake fluid if need be I know that will work although it is not friendly to Aluminum.

I've never tried this but, couldn't you heat the cylinder and cool the piston??? The thermal contraction may be enough to break it free.
Where is the piston in the jug? If it is at the bottom, can you pull the jug off and get to the wrist pin? I know this is a long shot.
You may end up having to drill or torch around the outside of the piston and allow the wrist pin to come free and leave the piston stuck to the cylinder wall.
Sounds like a good candidate for a 720/730 kit
If you don't want to do the work, let me know and I can get you Preacher's address. I'm sure he could disassemble for you and send the jug off or whatever you want to do and assemble once you get the new jug. He can work his majic on installation too.

A long time ago, way back when - I used a product named Marval Mystery oil (still made today) poured the MMO into the sprak plug hole of a froze up boat motor, with in a couple days of soaking it broke free.
A friend down the road from me used it in a seized lawn momer engine and it broke it free too.
Try it can't hurt - you can get it at Walmart, for about $4.00 a qrt.

In the past when it happened on motorcycles I was restoring I used the same method as got it there to begin with....HEAT.
This however depends on how far you broke down the engine.
I have used an oven to put the cylinder in and heat up to about 300-350F then carefully (HOT) take the cylinder out and pound the piston out. Here again you don't want to do this with the transmission attached or with the wife at home!.
