Snow tires for Banshee. What have you used?
#1
I'm trying to get my Banshee ready for the snow. I'm not going to ice race it, I just want to get some good traction in the powder. What kind of tires have you used and did you need to make any other adjustments/ mods to go thru deeper snow?

Thanks guys, but what sizes are you running? I was told that a taller narrow tire is best in snow. I was thinking of something like Titan 489/ 589 , but I don't know what height. I can get a reasonable deal on some almost unused
Sand Skate II's but I don't know if they're tall enough or too tall or too wide or what. What tires have you used on the fronts? Are wide tires better or tall ones?
Thanks alot!

Ive ridden quads in the snow in minnesota for years. The best tire for snow riding is the kenda nomad 22 inch. These tires are almost like paddles but they are bulletproof. They are also excellent mud tires. Only problem is that they are very hard to find nowadays. Kenda Nomads.

I ride all year round here in Ontario. Winter is a blast. I know I shouldn't be saying this in a Yamaha forum, but the Scrambler 400 is a great machine in the snow/ice/slush.
I sold mine earlier this year after using it two winters. I put studs in the tires and used it on the lakes, trails, snowbanks, etc. What a blast. Those 4 wheels would bite like crazy.
My 400EX was more of a challenge this winter. You need to carry momentum, and it is really hard on the machine, as snow is very similar to sand and robs the machine of power.
I would pass on the Paddles. They aren't tough enough.
Realtors are great but they don't have any side traction so they tend to spin out alot. (Both guys got rid of theirs).
I know the Spider Tracks are great in the snow. However, I have seen Spider Tracks on a banshee rip the nylon cords because of the speed. (100mph). Perhaps now that ITP has bought the tires, they have made them tougher. If so, they have a great tread pattern.
Right now the tire of choice for me is the Sur Tracks. (http://www.maxxistires.com/atv/surtrak.html)
I have them on my 400EX and they make the world of difference in any type of mud or slippery stuff. They are a bit narrower than my old bandits, but they bite great. Not too heavy either.
We now have 4 riders with those tires. Banshee, 400EX, 300EX, 250R.
I look forward to using them in the snow. I bought 22" tires so they are a little taller. They should give me another inch of clearance in the winter. If you get hung up on the center, it doesn't matter what type of tires you have.
Whatever your choice, there is nothing like studding up your tires, and wheelying across the lake, or racing up a river.
Just dress properly.
