Raptor oil qustion
#1
I am about to do my first oil change on my raptor and I have a question about what the oil. What kind of oil do you guys use? Can I put in mobil 1 sypersyn 4 stroke oil, the same stuff I put in my car, or should I stick to Yamalube oil? I would like to put synthic oil in it if at all possible. TIA.

This is just my opinion......Alot of builders do not recommend a synthetic..Why...I don't know...(I never asked)....Alot of the Raptor guys I know and ride with either use Kendall....or like me use Yamalube 10-30 with 20% Lucas non synthetic additive....... 2 quarts Yamalube and (point 2 )quarts of Lucas. This will probably start a **** storm with other guys...but like I said....It's only my opinion. It's all I use and all I will ever use.Car oil will not work well with the clutches I hear.

There is nothing wrong with using "car" oil as long as you stick within the recommended viscosities (or close enough). There is an issue with some sythetics that have additives which are too slick for a wet clutch system (like ATV's). I have heard several people tell stories of having used synthetics only to discover that their clutch would slip under power. I don't know which sythetics have this problem and which don't. I use Rotella 15w40 in everything from my tractors to my truck to my bike.

Check out the Actevo 10W40 oil made for ATV's it's a Castrol product. It's all I've used in all of my ATV's and the motors get punished here in Las Vegas when it get's hot. Most Yamaha dealers in this area carry it but you can buy it at place like Auto Zone cheaper. Hey don't forget to replace that crush gasket on the drain plug as it needs to be replaced every time you change the oil. And put oil on that new oil filter gasket before installing.

"Energy Conserving" are the words to look out for. As long as the oil you want to run does NOT say that on the back. Then you're okay. I've been using the regular old 15W-50 Mobil 1(red cap) car oil in all my bikes and ATV's for over two years now with ZERO clutch issues.

haha hounddog. that's a great picture with the raptor and the banshee going head to head roosting sand 20 feet in the air. Any way i got SAE10W30 for my raptor. I heard that the dealer's oil isn't much better but its more expensive. With this hurt my quad at all or the clutch. I don't race or anything and i don't really rev it to the limiter will this be ok?
