Grizzly top speed?
#1
I bought an 04 Grizzly new in June 2004. When it was new, it would go 66-67 mph according to the speedometer. After the first couple of hundred miles it would only go 62-63 mph according to the speedomter. (It now has over 2000 miles on it) I had the valves adjusted and it didn't make any difference. A friend of mine has an 05 Grizzly that is noticeably faster. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions on why the top end speed slowed down? I thought it would go faster after break-in. Thanks.

Could the belt be slightly slipping?
I'm sure you've checked these but just in case:
-is the air filter clean?
-have you cleaned out the spark arrestor?
-air pressure in your tires (low pressure can slow you down quite a bit)
-are you still running the stock tires? Larger tires will change your speedometer and lug you down some

We just had a customer complaining the same way. 1st he had a lower top speed than you are having. We immediately adjusted his float as they are usually not adjusted from the factory. That gave him an increase of about 10 mph.

I had the same thing with my 04 Griz. After break in I could get it up to 67 to 69. Now I think 65 is it's top speed. I've had the vales checked too and they are fine.
I just bought a 05 but haven't had a chance to ride it yet. I'm looking forward to doing some comparing of the 2.

cleaning the carbs out, and adjusting the float are good places to start.
the real reason why it is not hitting the speeds that it used to is becouse of the belt though. the belt( witch is the best in the industry) does and will strech slightly at about 1000 miles. this slows you down up to 10 mph. the belt is expencive, but needs to be replaced. all who have done so, have gotten back there top end. with 2000 miles on it, i can guarentee your belt is streched out. so, clean up the clutch, and slap in a new one,and you'll see a differance.
