Your Opinions...Best Mud/Trail Tire Right Now?
#1
I've got an 05 Honda Foreman 500 and I'm in the market for some new tires. I've heard a lot about ITP's 589 and Mud-Lite tires, but that's about all the research I've done so far. I'm looking for a tire that's going to be effective in the mud, handle sand, and other trail riding elements. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks!

I would say for strictly mud go with the 589 or swamp witch tires, if you are looking for a good all around tire stick with the mudlite or similar tire. I installed the 27" mudlites on my 2004 700EFI and they are great, what a difference from the stockers. check out my picture gallery

i would look into the dirt devil xt. they are tough as nails, smooth riding, and have 1 1/8" deep lugs. the xt's are the 26" and above and have the deeper lugs than the 25".

I would say best all around and great in mud would be the Mudlites...I have them and love them...but they have a downside like everything does...if you are into climbing these will hinder more than help...if you do som climbing it would prolly be smart to let air out of them if u do...they are very slippery on tha slopes...proly because of the center lug is the only thing touching on dryer surfaces...but other than that they are great...

you should check out the Duck's Unlimited Wetlands Radial
So far I think they are just what I was looking for in an all around tire
Light, aggressive, better ride and handling

Hey Probnut, who makes those Ducks Unlimited? I'm looking for a radial to put on my stock wheels. My ITP C-series/Mudlites tear up my yard too much when I'm doing spring lawn work. I'm considering Holeshot ATRs and those look pretty good too. How much $$? Thanks, Dan.

oledan, ITP makes them - so I would consider them the next generation of the ATRs. Less rounded off than the ATRs.
Not sure if the ATRs have a bead protector, but these do. Read that the ATRs and (know) Mudlites are weak in the sidewalls and flat-prone.
I really like these tires so far. Really had to change my driving style - had quite an effect on handling. Rides better too, which is good because I tried the PERFEX kit and took it off immediately.
I was not interested in a way aggressive tire like the 589s (see my buddies Rubicon with 26" 589s on my photo page). They dig too much in the snow and are going to tear up his lawn. I know this sounds like the advertising lines, but these tires do kinda float on top of stuff (when compared to the 589). If I stay smooth and I can walk away from my buddy in snow covered fields compared to his stock tires (I could always smoke him in the woods, but its full throttle in the fields)
I still think these are going to mark up the lawn, but not as bad as the 589s
