unless its really excessive, your fine.
Its normal to see small amounts of oil. After all, its a crank case breather.

Rings

To much crankcase pressure caused by blow by
In order to get new rings on her she's gonna get a new head gasket anyway

Are you sure?

I can't remember mine ever not blowing oil out that hose, even with a new rebuild.

That is the usual reason for it coming out the vent hose in excess. I doubt yours is excesive. At least I don't recall it being excessive. My vent tube filter will get wet with oil also and i need to clean it once in a while. But i clean it often enough to keep it to a min.

well i got around tonight to do a leak down test and i had 70 lbs in and was holding about 60. so put some oil in the cylinder and then held about to 68lbs. so it looks like ill be putting new rings in this guys ds. i can hear the air comming up from the crank case. i have the valve cover off.

It seem to be a common problem on the DS.

I think it is caused by the way the breather pipe connects to the crank case. The connection is quite low and if you take a high speed left hand corner, the oil moves to the right hand side and is splashed into the breather pipe. The same happens when you do technical riding and the go down steep hills and the oil moves into the breather hose. It is then blown out thanks to the crank case pressure created by the pistons downward stroke.

You will get this oil leak on brand new to very old DS's

The rings might be gone if you tested for leaks, but i don't believe it is the major cause for the leaking oil.
