Default to shock cover or not to shock cover???

Just wondering the pros and cons about shock covers for a predetor. Do you really need them?? i mean cars dont have them!!!

they protect from dirt, mud,water, sand, etc... i like them, and they are cheap protection.

shock covers shocks
Cheap and easy to install vs. expensive and hard to install

well worth installing, has keep the mud out of my shocks.

but when going in deep water, wont water and dirt get in and stay in?

Also I heard they take off the paint on the springs?

I think they are a waste of money in my opinon, unless you ride in sand.........

as you can see, there are mixed thoughts. my shock set up guy and i dont agree on this either. i use them on my bike and he doesn't like to use them. i say it keeps the dirt and mud off during the races and he says they trap it in. but i always pull them off and wash them and the shocks after riding or racing. they dont wear the paint that much, at least on mine.

They are a great way of stoping rocks and small stones from dinging up your shock shafts causing premature seal failure, they also protect from dirt debris etc from getting between your springs and shock. That said, you do need to remove them and wash the shock as you would do if they were not there, they will fill with muddy water if you submerse them and that needs to be cleaned out.

oh and they look cool! Definatly a good idea if you run $1500 shocks and don't like having them rebuilt all the time.

What about them trapping in the heat?? I'm a big boy and I ride hard and i dont want them to over heat? So what do I do?

P.S. I dont ride dunes

they wont cause over heat. the material is breathable and they velcro on. they aren't that tight

Great timming I just added a discussion of this to my blog[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] and have some images in mmy gallery of my pred with shock covers.... the short of it though is yes they are worth it.

My thoughts on Shock Covers for the Pred.
